At Bethalto U, the goal is to get the students out in the community, but as of right now, that might not be the safest thing to do, so I wanted to leave you with a few ideas that you can do with your students over the next couple of weeks and throughout the summer to keep encouraging their independence:
-Continue with a schedule each day
-Make the bed
-Complete their hygiene routine (as independently as possible)
-Set the table at meal times
-Clear the table after meals
-Cook together
-Read an article and/or book and discuss it
-Discuss the Corona Virus and the importance of keeping good hygiene skills to prevent the spread
-Exercise (Leslie Sansone has some EXCELLENT videos on YouTube that help you walk a mile or more right in your living room)
-Weather permitting: get outside and get some fresh air!
-Grocery shop together or even just prep for grocery shopping by making a meal plan and a list of all of the supplies you would need as well as your regular grocery haul

Virtual LIfe Skills
This website provides interactive tutorials that allow students to be a part of everyday life activities such as going to the grocery store, baking, using an ATM, etc. If you click on the link above, it will take you to a webpage with several numbers on it. Number 1 will show you how to use the site and numbers 2-30 provide students with all sorts of life skills online.
This social narrative might be beneficial in explaining the virus to your student:
